Men's Health

Men’s health is part of comprehensive family medicine. It includes preventive care, sexual health, mental health and the assessment of symptoms that may otherwise be easy to put off. You can raise these concerns at a routine appointment or book specifically to discuss them.

What to expect

Your physician will recommend assessment and screening based on your age, symptoms, family history and overall health. The visit begins with a conversation about your concerns and relevant medical history. An examination or testing may be recommended, but not every concern requires one — your physician will explain what is useful and why. Sensitive concerns are common in family medicine and will be handled respectfully.

Appointments and follow-up

Routine men’s health care is best booked with your primary physician so changes can be followed over time. Same-day care may be appropriate for a new or urgent concern, depending on the symptoms.

Coverage and fees

Medically necessary assessment and screening are generally covered with valid Alberta Health coverage. Medications and third-party examinations may have a separate cost.
