Everyday care

Preventive Care & Screening

Preventive care focuses on identifying health risks early and helping you stay well. The screening you need depends on your age, health history, medications, family history and individual risk factors. There is no single set of tests or examinations that every patient needs each year.

What to expect

Your physician will explain which screening is recommended, when it should begin and how often it should be repeated. A preventive appointment usually includes a review of your medical and family history, current medications and lifestyle risks. An examination or testing may be recommended when appropriate. Some screening is completed at the clinic, while other tests are arranged through a laboratory, imaging facility or screening program.

Appointments and reminders

Preventive care is usually booked in advance with your primary physician. Our clinic records help us track important screening and follow-up, but patients should also contact us if they believe something is overdue or if their health history changes.

Coverage and fees

Medically necessary preventive care and appropriate screening are generally covered with valid Alberta Health coverage. Examinations or testing requested for employment, insurance, licensing or another third party may be uninsured.
